Workshops to generate business ideas and projects based on bio-refinery

Louise V. Georgi, business developer at Risø DTU, says that experience from previous events shows that new business ideas and opportunities arise at the intersection between the participants’ diverse knowledge and skills. To keep the dynamic of the process, the workshops will be limited to three short meetings of concentrated work of developing new project and business ideas based on the refining of biomass.



Biomass to be converted into high value products

Oil is now used for fuel, materials and chemicals, but the scarcity of fossil resources means that there is a need to explore new avenues in future.

Biomass is a renewable resource with considerable potential. So far the focus has been on converting biomass into bioenergy. In future, we will not only produce bioenergy from biomass, but also other high value products, we now get from oil, such as chemicals, plastic, pharmaceuticals, etc.

Plant-based biomass can be used to replace oil-based products, but there is a need to develop new manufacturing methods. This creates a large potential market for Danish companies seeking new business opportunities in terms of the utilisation of biomass.
