Four days in August, PhD students will be going through an interesting and challenging programme at the annual HyFC Academy School on Fuel Cells and Hydrogen. This year the topic is SOFC degradation mechanisms and their mitigation. The research school, which has been running for four years, is supported by the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation and led by Professor Søren Linderoth, Head of Division at Risø DTU. There are still vacant places.

This year Comwell Roskilde, will provide the beautiful background for the summer school from 22 - 26 August 2010, which also includes a trip at Roskilde Fjord. The course will consist of presentations by experts in the field, but also of more workshops than in the previous years, allowing the participants to enter the scene, when the various topics are to be discussed.
”The research school HyFC Academy has received funding from the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation , and is targeted at PhD students who also form the majority of those participating. In the past years we have usually had around 40 participants, but there is room for more,” Søren Linderoth says, inviting all interested to register.
The participants at the course typically come from all over the world. Last year the course took place in Vancouver (Canada), and Søren Linderoth got assistance from the Canadian research institute National Research Council, which is a counterpart to Risø DTU. Apart from PhD students, others interested are also welcome to participate.
We have realised that it is incredibly rewarding for the PhD students, that there are people representing different sides of the work with fuel cells. We have had for instance investment people participating, who were to acquaint themselves with the advantages and problems of fuel cells; scientists and post docs who work with this area directly or indirectly and people from industry who have used this course to train new staff members in a fast and intensive way,” Søren Linderoth says.
According to Søren Linderoth, the different backgrounds of the participants also create a more lively discussion and pave the way for shedding light on several different aspects of the subject.
Master’s students, who are very interested in - or doing a thesis within this topic, and who are typically attending the MSc programme in sustainable energy, or the education in fuel cells and hydrogen, can also participate.
”After the course the participants often keep in touch, also across borders and different work areas. So this is an obvious place to kick-start your network, "says Søren Linderoth.
For those who are not affiliated to the school the price for attending the 4-day course is 950 EURO, covering the stay, meals, social activities and course materials. HyFC Academy pays for the teachers, and has furthermore awarded three scholarships to Master’s students at DTU.
